Joiners Anonymous

My Name is Danielle. I'm a Joiner. (The room echoes with "Hi, Danielle.") It appears that I am incapable of saying no, unless my cat is involved, then every conversation starts with no. Please let me review my schedule for this week. On Monday, I demonstrated an oral argument for some 1Ls. Tuesday passed without me trying to join stuff. Wednesday was an extension of previous joiner experiences with the Moot Court finals. Today, I interviewed for a moot court board position and then went to school to make sure that i bid on something for the public interest auction. There, I volunteered to introduce speakers at tomorrow's symposium. Which leads us to tomorrow. I am taking the day off from work to be at a Domestic Violence Symposium. there, I have volunteered to be both a timer and to introduce people. Please also note that i agreed to serve my favorite non-profit on another committee this week.

That's my story. I'm a joiner. If i didn't feel like a zombie this week from lack of sleep, it wouldn't be so bad. Let's hope i sleep tonight or those intros are going to be ugly.

Nothing in particular

You know, there is nothing really going on right now. It's nice out. I don't have to go to that class tonight. My presentation is done. I don't have to work on Friday because of the Domestic Violence Symposium. For once, there is nothing for me to whine about. tricky.

Weekend To-Do List

As mentioned previously, I have a lot to do this weekend. So far, i have completed a little tiny bit for the moot court presentation on Monday. But much more still needs to be done. I also procrastinated through cleaning the house and walking the treadmill.

Now i must:
Shower (ew, i know)
Go to grocery store as they will be closed early tomorrow for Christian Holiday
Finish Presentation slides (they are maybe halfway done)
Make dinner
Bake cookies
Complete Moot Court Board Application
Continue preparing for Moot Court Demo
Spend time with family
Go to movies with husband (this time he gets to pick)

This is just wrong.

Public Apology to My Husband

Last night, I put my husband through hell. I did something so incredibly horrible and selfish. So i must ask for his forgiveness in this public manner.

Honey, I'm sorry. I swear, I will never make you go see a movie as bad as Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous again.

I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.

Good Friday

Last night, around 5:30, i got home from work. I saw an unnamed number on the Caller ID from South Jersey. I panicked slightly and thought something might have happened with my grandmother. In fact, it was my dentist's office. I had an appointment today. It seems they sent out a postcard which I promptly ignored. As six months have passed, I agreed to this dental date. Since I still go to the dentist in pennsville, I called my mom and we agreed to have lunch afterward.

Today, i go to the dentist. I have a particular aversion to the pina colada flavored toothpaste that they use and I tell the woman every time that i hate it and somehow she always uses it. you see, she likes it. But this time, i remembered to discuss it beforehand. she offered cherry. I wanted bubble gum or mint. she then mentioned "mystery flavor." As I always enjoyed the Question mark flavored DumDums, i inquired more. she said that some people think it is root beer and others think raspberry. I like both of these, so i agreed to try it.

Mystery flavor smells like root beer but tastes like chocolate. it is brown in color. All in all, i give it three out of four stars. No nasty aftertaste like the pina colada, but not as delightful as bubble gum.

Then lunch with my mother. My aunt is still living with her, so she joined us. We went to TGI Friday's. I will simply say that Mom and Auntie both ordered an appletini. i exclaimed, but it is barely noon. they didn't care. I came home and took a nap, because I had a headache.

In summary, i have gotten nothing done on the many things that I have to do this weekend.

3 days off...

After 5:30 p.m., I begin a long weekend. That's right: three full days off. Normally I don't get two full days because of my Saturday class. But that is canceled and i get tomorrow to pray or something.

During this time off, I must:
  • Work on presentation for professional responsibility seminar
  • Prepare oral argument for Moot Court demonstration in Intro to Law class
  • Complete Moot Court Board application
  • Clean house (this is actually part of the process for the presentation)
  • Go to dinner with Michelle, Chrisie and Jen
  • Entertain both sets of family on Sunday (for a Christian holiday which is completely inapplicable to me)

That's it so far. I'm sure the list will grow. And I'm sure most of it will get done on Sunday evening in a fit of panic.

Such a trooper

I went to class. Yup, it sucked, but I was there. The guest speaker didn't show, so we had a lively discussion about juvenile deliquency. By lively, i mean, useless and not going to be on the bar.

Reasons to skip

that class is tonight. The list that follows demonstrates why I should not have to go.

1. It is raining.
2. Early start on holiday weekend.
3. I hate it.
4. Guest speaker is someone that I am not terribly fond of on a personal and political level.
5. I don't usually learn a damn thing.
6. I'm not wearing track pants. If I was home, I'd be wearing track pants.
7. Very little sleep last night makes my tolerance level very low.
8. No longer interested in discussing Schiavo case in class. Wait - was never interested in that to begin with....

Remain Positive. Take a Deep Breath.

It is Tuesday. This is normally when I post a rant about how much I do not like a certain class. Today, I have decided to take a different approach. Instead of talking about that class, I will talk about my other class, which I like. I'm going to be positive. That's right, positive.

Issues in professional responsibility. This class does not make me plan trips to the bathroom just so that I can get out of the room. This class is what I like to call good. Interesting discussions. Practical knowledge about how to be a good lawyer and not get disbarred or sued for malpractice. These are things I need to know.

Most importantly, it is taught well. I have the pleasure of having the same prof that I had for Wills & Trusts last semester (currently in first place for Danielle's Favorite Class EVER). She is definitely one of the best professors I've had during this law school journey. Not only do I like the subject matter (ok, contracts wasn't really my thing, but these two work for me), but I leave the room feeling prepared for the dreaded bar exam.

So there, I was positive. I'm not going to talk about the other class because it makes me tense.

The Latest

I have to stop going into places that sell art. I tried to learn self-control this weekend. So, instead of buying a Donovan Crosby, we got this smaller Ray Caesar print. But it is pretty and will add a little variety to the collection.

Viva Las Vegas

I am pleased to report that I have found a place to live this summer. The house on craigslist seems to have worked out. I talked to the owner for a while tonight. Really nice guy. He also passed kevin's grilling. I will get there on 6/1. Probably stay until the first or second week of August. It is close to Lake Mead, which pleases me greatly.

I am accepting reservations now. please please come visit me.

Thank you for the music....

Last night, we went to the big city to see Lights on Broadway. A Philadelphia Gay Mans Chorus concert. Kevin's friend Andrea was the only lady to perform. I can reduce the evening to a mathematical equation.

Large group of talented gay men
+ Singing ABBA Songs under guise of being in "Mamma Mia"
= Irresistible good fun

Not a good day

Today is one of those suck-ass days.

The day started with the MPRE. Nothing like getting up early during spring break to go take a test on Professional Responsibility. I will simply say that it was unpleasant. I need an 85 (on a sliding scale of 150) for the NV bar. If i get that score, I will be dancing with joy. It was hard. Damn hard. I did a lot of guessing and erasing. Let's keep our fingers crossed. If not, there is always August. And then November. And then March 2006.

As usual, I pacified myself with food. So i stopped at Wawa and got as much crap as i could carry and had a little feast when i got home. I will simply say that I should be ashamed, but I'm really not.

Then i tried to check my email. You've all met me. You know how i am with my email. I can get, but I can't send or delete. So i turned off the computer because I decided it just needed some rest and I took a nap. Except that i can't sleep without pills, so i just tossed and turned for about two hours while the cat slept.

After waking up (with a slight tummy ache, of course), I attempted to use the computer again. Same problem. Comcast couldn't help. They said i have to reinstall stuff. Which sounds hard. So I am going to bribe leslie to help me fix it. And of course, it is just on my login. Kevin's works just fine.

the only good thing to come out of this crappy day is that i might have a place to live this summer. Found what appears to be a great sublet on craigslist. I emailed the guy last night and he called me back this morning while i was trying to demonstrate my responsibility in a professional sort of way. He said i sounded like a sensational candidate. And I agree, I am sensational, so we'll see what comes of it. But it would be a two bedroom house, fully furnished. Save me buckets on rent.

Will I kill it?

When no one is downstairs (my desk is upstairs), we turn these bells on to let us know when someone comes in the building. So, the bell rings and I go downstairs. Two nice young ladies came were waiting.

Blah blah blah, soliciting people to use this conference room on UD's Wilmington campus. Because I agreed to take some information from them, i received a present. It is a little tiny flower pot and it appeared to be full of candy. Excellent as i like free candy.

So I rip into it and discover that there are not just candies, but also little tiny seeds and a patch of nature to grow them on. Now, I have the burden of growing the little plants. Let's hope they don't die in my care.

Failure?

I have the MPRE tomorrow. I just finished some practice questions. I got 12 out of 25 wrong. This does not seem like a good sign. Someone is going to be up late studying....

Recap

This evening has been very eventful. Since i like lists and counting, I will continue to use that format.

1. I ate Rice Krispies for dinner. While this is not exciting to anyone else, it is the first time i have had non high fiber cereal in a while.
2. I got my hair done. Roots be gone! Ottis is a gifted, gifted man. (And nothing like finding out that your stylist's real name is Ottis, but I think that's our little secret. Don't call Trilogy and ask for Ottis because I don't think people know.)
3. I went to the mall to get a passport picture taken for the MPRE. Have to pick that up tomorrow.
4. Went to Macy's and visited Lori at the potion counter. Due to a recent issue with some blemishes, I had to find some sort of potion to kill any unwanted cells. In an uncharacteristic moment, I let a person other than Kevin or Tonia touch my face and she placed heaven in a bottle on my skin. In an instant the potion made my pores disappear. Due to the magic contained in the bottle, i let her touch me once after that to put more on. Good stuff.
5. and now i am home. and i'm considering another bowl of non-high fiber cereal.

clearly a good night. That's what happens when there are no new tv shows on.

Nude Satan Worshipping Cat

Today's edition of Things I Like is dedicated to the cat.

1. he has the largest fruit bat ears ever
2. he plays fetch better than a dog
3. he resembles a chicken in some photos
4. he he doesn't meow. instead, he meeps.
5. he can become completely flat (except for those pesky ears)
6. he was best dressed kitty in delaware last summer
7. he curls up in my lap when i actually bother to do homework
8. he plays shy with most visitors, except leslie and he beats the crap out of her
9. he has an aversion to wool. If i open the sweater drawer, he gets in and starts to KILLKILLKILL
10. he likes to cha-cha

  • Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs
  • imitating the little Korean dictator from the world's worst movie

Thank you, come again

Seriously. This has not been a good day. It started out with the nude satan worshipping cat attacking my feet at 6:30 and has not improved much since then. I recently had a conversation with my boss and said, is there anything else I can screw up for you today? Because that's how it's going today....

A Comment on Warm Beverages

I am sick. My throat feels like it has been rubbed with sandpaper and the coughing doesn't help things.

To heal, everyone says, drink tea with honey. This presents a problems because I don't do the whole caffeine thing and I don't like warm beverages.

But my saintly husband went to the ghetto acme this morning and got me some decaf green tea. I got instructions from someone in the office on how to make it. I have poured almost the entire bear's head worth of honey into the mug.

Conclusion: I still don't like warm beverages. I'm drinking it with a spoon so that it is more like soup. Plus I can blow on each spoonful to make it room temperature, which I can handle.

HOT date

Hot and Toasty, that is. Tonight, we're going to Quiznos for dinner. I'm more excited about this than I should be. I believe this officially removes us from the newlywed category.

Asshole bingo

While on my recent moot court trip to colonial crapville, I learned about a special game called Asshole Bingo. Apparently this is a game that is widely played in law school and i never knew. This special game involves singling out a few of your peers that are far too interested in participation. One tracks their behavior in the classroom and eventually wins bingo.

Last evening, I chose a special redhead whose voice makes Kim cringe. Kim chose another unsuspecting victim. We both won rather quickly.

When classes resume after spring break, I'm going to make a bingo board especially for our professor. One category will be how many times she curses. Another will be references to her family's fortunes. Another will be amazing war stories of the AG's office. Another will be sipping in a strange sideways manner from her straw. (she does not sip normally)

This little bit of heaven is the only thing that's going to get me through the rest of the semester in this class.

Ugly purple unicorn

so i am selling this hideous purple unicorn marionette on Ebay. Not only does it have a bid from a frigthening puppet collector, but there are three other people watching the auction. I guess everyone collects something.

Things I hate

I am a control freak. This should not come as a surprise to anyone who knows me.

I also do not like when people refuse to take control of things that they are supposed to be working on. Then they solicit the help of other individuals in a less than courteous manner. And then they take one's original efforts and do the last little bit of work based on what was handed to them and present it to a larger group as though the entire thing is their own effort. And they do not advise that they have even begun to work on the activity as they should have been in the first place. This is most annoying because one was expecting to follow up on the very same thing later in the day.

These are the types of things that make one never want to work with such individuals again.

Evil voodoo curses are being chanted....
